I have been an artist my entire life. I have also been an environmentalist my entire life... and somewhere in there is a tech-loving statistician.

I grew up mostly in California where protection of the environment was expected, and "high tech" was blooming. My grandfather worked on the Mercury space program at Nasa/Ames and my grandmother was a key punch operator at IBM. My father was an engineer in early Silicon Valley and my mother was the artist of the family. When I told my Dad I wanted to study art/graphic design in college, he wanted to know how I was going to make a living painting sidewalks and why I would waste my engineering mindedness. Many of us artists have heard that one! This perfect storm of passion and skill in my family allowed me to pursue many different areas of study in college, and beyond.

For many years I did creative and marketing work in corporations, transitioning processes from hand built to computerized with the evolution of silicon ‘chips’ to the processing power of today. During this time, I began to ask a lot of questions about effectiveness of the work my teams and I were doing; Was that ad successful? Did we accomplish what we were expecting? These questions led me to a career shift into Insights and Analytics using statistical processes and formulas learned in college. I was (and still am!) absolutely enamored with data and what it can tell us about the business questions we have.

Bio

I bring creative thinking into all aspects of my life; from problem solving to creative composition to designs by nature. Upon completion of my Bachelor’s degree in Communications (emphasis on visual and marketing communications) I started my career in marketing in the high tech industry. Over the years, I shifted from marketing to statistics and analysis, while maintaining my creative connection using fused glass and precious metal clay. During this period, I studied techniques with glass and clay pioneers and experts. In 2003, I launched my ‘part time’ jewelry art business.

I have been accepted to dozens of juried art shows, where I have exhibited and sold my work. In 2021, I left the high tech world to focus on her Art as well as the Environment, full time.

Hey, I'm Lisa!

BY DAY, I WAS DOING ANALYSIS. BY NIGHT AND WEEKENDS, I WAS CREATING ART.

In early 2002, a friend introduced me to stained glass and fused glass and I fell in love. A few years later, we tried out PMC - Precious Metal Clay; I have been working with this medium ever since.

In October 2021, I made the decision to leave high tech behind to focus on my art and my passion for the environment.

I am an introvert by nature, which means two keys things to me:

First, I learn and express myself differently. Second, I need time to recharge from too much ‘peopling.' Being introverted is not a negative, it's just a unique way of navigating the world. However, it's a reality that in our society extroversion is praised and introversion is mostly frowned-upon. I asked myself for many years, "How can I do all of the environmental things I am passionate about if I cannot communicate in a very loud world?" Throughout my journey, I’ve held the hand of my introverted self and figured out how to achieve my goals without exhausting myself into a place of anguish, anger and frustration by trying to be something I'm not.

One way that I have achieved this is my physical environment, and part of the reason I am so passionate about the environment. My husband and I own a 15 acre property in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. Every day I marvel that I get to live here! Every day I take pictures of the sunrise and sunsets because each day seems better than the previous day. I love the rain and grey days that nurture my trees and feed our creek and ponds… it nurtures me too. I breathe easier here.
